About Gravity Conveyor Systems

Gravity conveyor systems can be used in a variety of settings, from the manufacturing facility's floor to the distributor to the retail store. Their main purpose is to move products in an efficient manner with or without the intervention of people in the process. For this we require conveyor system manufacturer.

Types

There are 2 main types of gravity tracks; wheels and rollers. Wheels are ideal for lightweight cartons and products with a firm, smooth surface on the bottom. Rollers work well for items that need a larger area of the bottom surface supported. They also accommodate packaging with rounded or uneven surfaces, like drums, baskets and pails.

Structure

Elements of the gravity flow rack system can be positioned and supported in a few different ways. They can be suspended in the air; hung from ducts. This method maximizes the use of open space. They can also be supported by a permanent H-shaped frame which is securely connected to the floor. Sections of gravity conveyor tracks can also be attached to a welded tubular construction. These are optionally portable on swivel casters with stationary wheel brakes, and can be adjusted by a hand key as needed.

Order Picking

Some facilities prefer to have their order pickers stationed along the gravity conveyor system. This works in a number of scenarios. As open cartons come by the workstation, items can be added by the worker to the existing order in an assembly line fashion. The other option is for the worker to be at a workstation assembling orders as the product comes by for order picking. Shelves full of product can be stationed behind the conveyors for easy access. Another option is to have a modular workstation in use as the conveyor tracks pass by the area.
